The following are the most commonly asked questions regarding the AlterG Antigravity Treadmill. If you have any further questions, please call or stop into any CryoUSA Active Recovery Center to speak with a CryoUSA employee.
1. What would I use AlterG for?
The majority of our clients are using AlterG to help with mobility when rehabilitating an injury. The treadmill can be added as a supplement to workouts or just in general to stay active. It is used to reduce pounding on the joints and allows the client to walk, jog or run un-weighted. Healthy clients can use the AlterG to build VO2 max by forcing their cardiovascular system to work harder than they can make it work at 100% of their body weight during normal, weighted activity.
2. Am I still getting a good workout from running on the AlterG Treadmill?
Yes, although you may not feel your weight you are actually getting an increased cardiovascular workout. The AlterG treadmill allows you to run faster for longer periods at a reduced rate compared to running at full body weight. This allows you to work your cardiovascular system at a higher rate than you could running normally.
3. Are there any restrictions (e.g., weight, height, age)?
The treadmill can sustain up to 400 pounds and a height of 6 feet 5 inches. There is no age restriction. The client must be able to properly fit into the shorts and zip into the treadmill.
4. Can someone help me train on the treadmill?
We can give you recommendations and help you learn to operate the treadmill. We can also provide you with training programs that we received from AlterG programming. You can also feel free to bring a trainer in with you.
5. Do I need a doctor’s referral?
No, you do not. If you have an extensive injury we ask that you get your doctor’s approval.
6. Can I use insurance as a form of payment?
No, we do not accept insurance policies. You can always ask your insurance provider if they can reimburse you, but we do not accept insurance for payment. Many of our clients use their health savings account cards just like a credit card.
7. What does it feel like?
The easiest way to explain it is the feeling of walking on the moon. It is not entirely weightless but can take away 80% of your body weight, allowing you to only run with 20% of your weight. The first 10 minutes does take some time to adjust to the feeling and your stride, but your body quickly adapts.
8. Do I have to wear anything specific?
We suggest that you wear exactly what you would wear to run. Tighter fitting clothing would be the most comfortable, as you will be wearing compression shorts while on the treadmill. Men can wear spandex briefs under the shorts. The shorts are washed after every use. We also suggest that you wear normal running shoes.
9. Is there a membership for AlterG?
AlterG sessions can be purchased individually (30 or 60 minute duration), and all CryoUSA memberships provide for unlimited AlterG sessions.
