2018 is going to be a huge year for fitness. We’ve seen more and more trends take over in the past few years, and some are about to explode in the coming months.
Make sure you’re staying ahead of the curve by knowing what to expect in 2018.
Here are the top 7 trends to expect in 2018:
HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training). HIIT involves short bursts of activity followed by a short period of rest or recovery. A typical HIIT session will last about 30 minutes. It offers a great workout without a ton of time or equipment. It’s a safe, effective, and fun way to exercise.
LIIT (Low Intensity Interval Training). While HIIT has been around a little longer, LIIT is relatively new and becoming more and more popular. It will still burn the same calories as a solid HIIT session will, but will take you about double the time to complete. The benefit? It can be as simple as taking a walk, but in intervals. The intensity is much lower, and it can be performed more often as it doesn’t require as much recovery between sessions.
VR (Virtual Reality) Workouts. That’s right. VR has made its way to the fitness scene. VR fitness means you can exercise in an exotic location, run across the world, and participate in global events without ever leaving your home. It’ll even keep track of your activity, steps, calories, mileage, and more so you can get the full picture.
Bodyweight training. Bodyweight training is exactly what it sounds like — training using only your bodyweight. That means little to no equipment and very few limitations. A bodyweight exercise can be performed in your living room, your office, or a park, making it easily accessible to everyone.
Group training. Personal training sessions can be expensive. Not only is group training cheaper, but it can also be more motivating (depending on your personality type, of course). Many people tend to feel more motivated when in a group, so this could be the perfect answer for them. Group training instructors teach, lead, and motivate people from all fitness levels, allowing participants to learn from others in their classes and get some added socialization — and who doesn’t love a good community?
Yoga. It’s an ancient tradition, but it’s still booming in popularity today and we can expect it to be even bigger in 2018. Its health benefits and multiple variations makes it a great choice for anyone. Whether it’s hot yoga, yoga pilates, or power yoga, you’re likely to find a studio on every corner, and you’re likely to find its benefits astounding.
Recovery. While everything else on this list presents you with a myriad of choices to make when it comes to your fitness, the one aspect you can’t ignore is recovery. People are learning more and more how vital recovery is to your overall health and fitness, which can explain the popularity of recovery modalities like cryotherapy and light therapy. Recovery is so much more than ice baths and stretching (although you should never skip a good stretch), and many individuals are making this a regular part of their fitness routine.
We’ve already seen the benefits of some of these trends recently, and we’re expecting them to truly take off in 2018. The only question we have is, what’s next?
